Mechel Wall of Rogers (above) looks through plants for sale Friday at Compton Gardens in Bentonville. Wall, a master gardener, attended a talk by landscape designer Susan Jasan on native trees and plants before attending a special plant sale. A public native tree and plant sale will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the garden as well as other events for National Public Garden Days at Compton Gardens.

Eli Sommer, 7, attempts to collect water from the end of a water sprayer Saturday during an open house tour of the Rogers Aquatic Center. The aquatic center is scheduled to open May 25. The center will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

Jennifer VanHook, left, of Siloam Springs and Justine Newlun of Gentry look through their event programs Saturday while waiting for the start of NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s annual nursing pinning ceremony at the Arend Arts Center in Bentonville. VanHook and Newlun’s class of 40 students entered the program together in the fall of 2011 and remained intact to graduate at pinning ceremony. A Florence Nightingale Pledge and lamp lighting ceremony was also performed at the graduation, a nursing tradition that dates back to 1893.

Joe Camacho, 17, left, holds out a cup of water Saturday for Jeremy Krueger during the annual Kendrick Fincher 5K and Youth Run at Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers. The race was hosted by the Kendrick Fincher Hydration Foundation which promotes adequate hydration in an attempt to reduce injury and death related to heat illnesses. Kendrick Fincher, a 13-year-old student at Elmwood Junior High School, died in 1995 from complications related to heat stroke.
