Sandoval was participating in the district wide fourth-grade track meet that featured the 400-meter dash, a football throw and long jump as part of the activities of the annual track meet.

Ali Williams, right, community organizer for Pack Rat Outdoor Center in Fayetteville, helps Joshua McKee of Springdale learn paddling techniques Wednesday while becoming familiar with canoeing in the pond outside the store. A group of clients from Youth Bridge is preparing for an 8-mile trip down the White River on Saturday and three more similar trips as a part of an effort to give young people experiences with the outdoors and boating. The effort is organized by the Beaver Watershed Alliance with help from Pack Rat through a Paddle Nation grant given by Outdoor Nation. The local effort will also guide similar trips for Girl Scouts from West Fork and children at the Yvonne Richardson Center.

Overall, the class of 2013 earned $7,322,275 in scholarships. Community scholarships totaled $358,245, military scholarships totaled $2,123,488, and the remaining $4,840,542 was awarded to seniors from college, state and national scholarships.
