Firefighters assist Mark Smith, a Springdale police officer, who was involved Wednesday in a one-car accident on Powell Street in Springdale. The officer, who appeared to suffer a medical emergency while driving, was taken to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale, according to a news release. The officer, a 15-year veteran of the department, was conscious and alert while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
