Tina Oppenheimer, a longtime Fayetteville artist, paints a design atop a storm drain Monday at Dickson Street and West Avenue in Fayetteville. Oppenheimer is one of several artists participating in a project organized by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service to paint 11 storm drains in Rogers, Bentonville, Springdale and Fayetteville in an effort to educate the public about water quality. Water collected from roadways and parking lots can be contaminated with fertilizer, petroleum products and pet waste that can later pollute area streams and, eventually, the area’s water sources.

Matthew Howard, Reagan Elementary School assistant principal, drops into a tank of water Monday at the school in Rogers while celebrating the end of standardized testing at the school. Students earned chances to dunk the principal, Laura Quillen, and Howard by exhibiting positive attitudes, good behavior, enthusiasm and arriving on time during their grade’s testing week. Student names were raffled off for attempts to dunk Quillen and Howard. Laura Quillen said about 70 students would have an opportunity to throw a softball at a target in an attempt to dunk them into a dunk tank. Quillen said the event was to reward the kids for working so hard during the tests.
