Volunteer Bill Degge of Rogers trims a tree of heaven from the fence that surrounds the Walker Cemetery adjacent to the Confederate Cemetery in Fayetteville in preparation for today’s 140th annual Southern Memorial Day ceremony organized by the Southern Memorial Association of Washington County at 10 a.m. The ceremony was postponed June 1 because of severe weather. It will include the dedication of a plaque at the Walker Cemetery, which contains graves of founding families of Fayetteville. Walker Cemetery has been under the care of the Southern Memorial Association, which cares for the Confederate Cemetery, since 2011.
