Abby Newman, 10, lowers her ponytail Tuesday at Happy Hollow Elementary School in Fayetteville as physical education teacher Erin Rains adjusts a helmet for her. The third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students are participating in Bike Ed, a hands-on program started by the Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks to teach students how to ride a bicycle responsibly. The students watched safety videos, walked an obstacle course and were fitted with helmets Tuesday. In the next couple of days the students will have the opportunity to practice skills learned on a course.
