James McDonald of Rogers, left, salutes the flag as he hands it to retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Michael Ford, center, and members of the Rogers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3031 Color Guard Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Springdale Airport. The recently installed flag pole was dedicated to McDonald and preceded a medals award ceremony. McDonald was presented with replacement medals for his Purple Heart, American Campaign medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, World War II victory medal, combat action ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation ribbon and a variety of other military insignias by retired Air Force Lt. Col Steve Gray, state military and veteran advisor for Sen. John Bozeman. McDonald was a U.S. Marine during World War II and was shot while breaching the shore of Guam in 1944.
