Paul Muse drives a soil-compaction measuring device into the ground Wednesday during work to widen South 21st Street in Rogers south of New Hope Road. Muse said the hardness of the ground is measured after it is rolled with machinery so it will support the wider street. Ground must be solid enough to prevent potholes and defects once the widening is complete. With Muse are John Fry, center and Isidro Mamjarrez.
