Brenda Compton looks over item No. 67 Monday at the Arend Arts Center in Bentonville during the Create for the Community Gala. The event hosted musical performances in addition to the silent auction of more than 80 ceramic art pieces created by Ceramic I students from Bentonville High School. Proceeds from the gala will be used to raise money to adopt a room at the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter. The art pieces were inspired by the idea of necessity. Sarah Bartmier, high school ceramics teacher and organizer, said the purpose of the event was focused on teaching the students to “use their art and use their talent to make a difference in the community.”
