Aaron Thomas with the Rogers Fire Department turns away from the heat Friday during the demolition of two houses near East Mulberry and South D Street. The houses are among about 20 the city purchased to be removed as part of an improvement project in the downtown area, said Capt. Josh Chapman with the Fire Department. Firefighters will burn all 20 homes during the next couple of months, Chapman said. Habitat for Humanity was permitted to remove any furniture, appliances or fixtures from the houses before being burned.
