Lily Stitt, 9, practices her free throws Sunday before the start of the 41st annual Elks National Hoop Shoot, a free-throw program for children from ages 8-13 at the Rogers Activity Center. Lily practiced for the competition twice a week after basketball practice with her league team, the Celtics. Top free-throw contestants, one boy and one girl, from each of the three age divisions move on to the state level of the competition in Hot Springs on Feb. 2. Top shooters from the state move to a regional competition in Paris, Tenn., and finally to the national competition in Springfield, Mass. The event, sponsored by the Rogers/Bentonville Elks Lodge No. 2144, was free and open to children ages 8-13.
