Jennifer Jackson and other members of Temple Shalom use a “shamash” or “helper candle” to light the first candle on their menorahs during the first night of Hanukkah on Dec. 8. Families brought their menorahs to the temple for a community celebration. The Festival of Lights will end Sunday.
